Review: Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang

That's right. It's time for another Kid Lit review. What Canadian child didn't grow up reading Mordecai Richler's Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang at least once in his or her life? I'd forgotten how amusing that book could be.

A novella for those who were just starting to read chapter books, Jacob Two-Two is a child who is two plus two plus two years old who's been sent to the children's prison at Slimer's Isle for insulting a grown-up, the worst crime of them all. Soon, Jacob Two-Two discovers that the Hooded Fang isn't nearly as dreadful as he ought to be, and he figures out what weaknesses adults have.

I'm certain that at some point during childhood, all kids want to be superheroes of sorts (I know I did), and sure enough, in Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang, Child Power saves the day.

If you want to relieve your superhero childhood, or know of a kid who's about eight years old or so who's just starting to read chapter books, I'm certain you (and he or she) would heartily enjoy Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang.
